now and later dress.

now and later dress.

I shared this dress on my Instagram while I was in Dallas and totally forgot to give y’all the good details about it! If you saw my stories last night, I was struggling to say the least. Then I realized there are so many ways to style this under $40 dress, now and later.

For now, I styled this dress to scream summertime. Neutral wedges, a bright-colored bracelet stack, and big turquoise earrings complete the look. Can we also talk about how I’m pretty sure every southern woman has a pair (or two) of turquoise earrings? It’s like a rite of passage. And several of my Kendra Scott pieces is currently on sale. So run, don’t walk.

The details are so darling on this dress. From the flutter sleeves, to the trendy lace-up top,  it’s a piece that will stay current now and later. I’m still clearly obsessed with my cork clutch that you can find on this post. For sizing, I went up a size and would recommend you do too.

For later, I paired my striped dress with my favorite denim jacket and favorite booties. I’m linking my exact jacket below and some others that I’ve had my eye on, but my booties are old from Marshall’s. I’m sharing some similar ones that have just as good of a price tag as mine, don’t worry. I’m seriously getting all the fall vibes from everyone’s NSale posts. I’m never one to shop ahead (I can barely think ahead), but I’m getting in the fall mood.

That is until I step outside in the Houston heat.

Anywho, I’m sharing all the ways you can recreate my looks for now and later below. So that no matter your budget you can style this dreamy dress to fit any occasion.

NSale Picks

NSale Picks

It’s here. The most talked about sale ever. Literally. So here’s the low-down.

I’m taking all the fluff out of this post and focusing on what you want. The goods. Here it is, my NSale Picks. This is my first time shopping as a blogger, which isn’t that much different than before. I’m still as serious about scoring a deal, but now I just have y’all to report back to and share the details. I like this way a lot better.

Okay, enough of the sappy.

Below are the pieces that I seriously have my eye on just from the previews I’ve seen. I won’t buy them all (at one time), but they are pieces that everyone needs in their closet. I know I need to update my denim collection and I seriously need a new pair of sneaks.

If you are only shopping when it’s released to the public in a little over a week, head here to get your sale fix for now.

I’m trying to stay away from all the extra things that I will only wear a couple times and stick to the basics. I know a lot of bloggers are also covering basics, but you won’t see any pieces over $100 on Keeping It Caitlin. No matter how good the sale and how bad I might want something, the wallet (and husband) think otherwise. Which I usually talk myself out of those major purchases anyways.*keyword is usually.

Tomorrow morning I will be switching out this preview for a round-up that you can shop from. But for now, here’s what I’m loving so far.

UPDATE: I bought the first three things I’m sharing below, (Sneakers, bra, and jeans) but I found a handful of perfect staple pieces that are a steal too!

Happy Shopping!
cheers,
caitlin

sale picks of the weekend: 7/5

sale picks of the weekend: 7/5

It’s been a crazy week y’all. Yesterday was so fun with friends, but my body was in full weekend mode. I defintely had to peel myself out of bed today. Anywho, y’all know I’m all about the sales and I wanted to share my sale picks of the weekend.

P.S. you can shop this recent look right over here, and my top is now on super sale. That’s what I get for trying to be cool and buy something full price at Anthro. Lesson. Learned.

Also, I wanted to share some details on how Keeping It Caitlin is going to be keeping up with the NSale. Yes, I’m the first one to admit, I’m a sale junkie. However, I feel like so many people are covering the sale, so I don’t want to add to the overkill. I’ve already seen bloggers post about how they’re a level this or that cardholder, and that isn’t my thing. So, I’m going to share all my picks and purchases when it comes out to the public. Then I’ll be on top of sharing when things get restocked and share my try-ons. I’ll have a saved story on my Instagram that I’ll always keep updated for y’all.

Let’s get down to what you can shop right now.

Loft PLUS is 50% off using CODE: FLASH.

Shorts and Tops at Loft are 50% off. No code needed.

Anthropologie sale items are an extra 25% off. No code needed.

Aerie is 40-60% off. I love all their bralettes and swim.

Nordstrom added a bunch of 40% off sale items. Yes, I know the NSale starts soon, but that won’t keep me from shopping.

Madewell has 20% off their ‘Summer Must Haves’ using CODE: SPARKLER. Hurry, it ends tonight, 7/5.

ModCloth just added new, delicious markdowns. No code needed.

Old Navy is up to 60% off the whole store. No code needed.

Here are just a few of my favorite things. (Anyone else hear that in Julie Andrew’s voice? I love me some Sound of Music.)

P.S.S. my giveaway closes tonight! Head to my instagram if you haven’t entered.

4th of July looks

4th of July looks

It’s pretty fitting that I’m waiting until the last second to shop and share looks with y’all for the 4th of July. I have a bad habit of coming in hot right before anything. Are y’all in the same boat? Time just gets away from me. But, that doesn’t mean we can’t look super cute! I’m sharing all my favorite picks from 3 places that are perfect for last minute looks.

I curated a handful of perfect pieces for the 4th (starting with what I’m wearing) that will look so darling for any plans you have. I’ve included everything from swimsuits, to kimonos, to the sweetest accessories.

These are 3 of my favorite last-minute shopping stops because you can see what’s actually in stock around you. I can’t tell you the amount of times I’ve checked to make sure they have what I want in my size before I’ve headed to the store. The cherry on top of the convenience cake? Nordstrom’s “Buy and Pick Up” or their “Reserve and Try On”. Talk about a time saver.

Anyway you shop, early or late, we’re all going to look like bomnshells this 4th of July.

cheers,

caitlin

anniversary in austin

anniversary in austin

I’m finally getting around to sharing a little recap of one of my favorite weekends ever. Seriously. When J and I got back, we looked at each other and said “Dang, that was better than the honeymoon”, and it really was. Austin is just so much fun. I grew up going there on trips with my family so I am familiar with different areas, but it’s so fun to explore with Jackson.

So, I’m sharing a little recap of our anniversary in Austin. From start to finish. And if y’all have any good spots you love in Austin, comment on the blog! I’m always up for new places.

First, Austin is the perfect getaway in Texas. If you don’t live in Texas, you have to realize it’s hard as heck for us to get out of this state. Literally, it takes like 10 hours just to leave Texas sometimes. From Houston, Austin is just over 2 hours away so it’s the perfect getaway destination.

Where We Stayed

This was Jackson’s “surprise” for me. He gets intimidated to surprise me with things/he can’t keep an secret so this was a big deal for him. We stayed at the Hotel Indigo and loved it. It was walking distance to a lot of different places and had a dreamy pool with cabanas. It’s close to 6th street, which wasn’t my fav, but the room and everything else was amazing. The Highlight: Eating wedding cake for breakfast, in bed.

Where We Went

My big surprise for J was a tour of Still Austin. Highly recommend if you or whoever you’re with is a whiskey drinker. If you’ve been around Keeping It Caitlin for a while, you know J loves his whiskey. When we pulled up, he was so excited. We did the tour, drank the whiskey, bought the whiskey, and everything in between. It’s such a cool place to go and check out. They have the cutest outdoor area complete with food trucks, too.

My second surprise was a reservation at the Midnight Cowboy. COOLEST PLACE EVER. It’s a true speakeasy that is reservation only and has the most delicious cocktails. It’s ran by this badass girl (girl power) and is so detailed from the decor to the drinks.

IMG_5996

I promise we aren’t alcoholics haha. J’s college drinking has just grown up into a love for sophisticated evening beverages. 🙂

I know it’s a little basic, but I can’t help it. I LOVE SoCo. It just speaks to me. South Congress has always been my “spot” in Austin and this time was no different. Everything from Magnolia Cafe, to our favItalian spot, all the shopping, and the amazing view of the capital. It’s all right there. Everything is so funky down there and it has the best vibe. If you’re in Austin, spend a half day just walking up and down South Congress. You won’t be disappointed.

IMG_5997

P.S. if you do anything, eat at our fav spot. My dad took my family there a couple times, then J and I ate there on our way to the honeymoon, and we made sure we came back this time. It’s so ridiculously good.

Of course I can’t go anywhere without a little (or a lot of ) shopping. I can’t rave enough about my fabulous pieces I found at ModCloth. I know y’all heard about it in this post, but it was just the coolest store experience.

For our anniversary dinner, that was supposed to be a surprise, we went to Roaring Fork Downtown. Proof J can’t keep a secret haha. He gets too nervous that I won’t like what he picked and ends up telling me to make sure I’ll like it. He forgets that I’m never going to be disappointed with his surprises. **Knocks on wood. But it was SO good. It wasn’t far from our hotel, which was perfect and was the best spot for a nice dinner.

2132

We didn’t do any adventurous stuff this time because we just wanted to explore, but check out Cypress Valley Canopy tours if you’re wanting something outside of the city. Such a fun experience.

I feel like I just shared everywhere we like to eat and shop, but that’s what vacation is all about right? I love taking y’all along with me and sharing the things that J and I love to do. Stay tuned for more adventures.

Where should we go next?

cheers,

caitlin

love with lavender

love with lavender

I feel like we all know by now, lavender has been the IT color this year. I’ve always had a handful of purple in my closet (thanks to SFA and LSU), but when I found this perfect top, I fell right back in love with lavender. And don’t worry, you can shop my whole outfit at the bottom of the post.

IMG_3840-2Y’all know everywhere I go, I go to Anthropologie. It’s kinda sad because I pride myself on being a boutique shopper, but Anthro is literally too good to pass up. So, of course, we went to the Anthropologie downtown while we were in Austin. Jackson isn’t even phased by our Anthro trips and can probably tell you where all the sitting areas are in most of their stores by now! He’s a natural. 🙂IMG_3841-2

Anyways. Just to get down to it, this top isn’t currently on sale. I know, I’m just as shocked that I bought something full-price, too. However, I will totally be sharing on Instagram when it’s on sale, so be on the lookout. In the mean time, there’s a bunch of good stuff on sale at Anthro right now. I shared all my favorites right over here.

So, basically this top is so perfect. It comes in several colors, but the lavender was just dreamy. It’s super lightweight, which makes it easy to wear year round, and it’s something you could wear to work or on the weekend.

I styled it for the weekend because casual, duh. But it’s also perfect to layer over a tank dress or pencil skirt for work. The roll-up sleeves and covered buttons are the cherry on top.

And can we talk about the tie-front! Helloooooo, I love it. I was a little nervous to try it on because I haven’t worn anything tie-front lately, I know I need to get with the times. But it’s so flattering and since you tie it yourself, you can tie it however you like. Good stuff.

I’m wearing it with all my new obsessions. From the dreamiest denim, to one of my anniversary gifts (that I will be sharing more about soon), and my studded babes. This outfit made me feel the love with lavender.

IMG_3859-2

What’s better than a top you can wear with anything, a flattering color, fun earrings, and tan legs? Nothing. That’s why you need this.

perfect summer jumpsuit

While in Austin, I wore one of my favorite outfits I own, my floral jumpsuit. I bought it last year at my fav store, Anthropologie and it’s one of the best purchases I’ve made. Seriously, you can’t put a price on how flattering it is. I want to add a new summer jumpsuit to my closet and knew I had to share some of my favorites with y’all.

I was thinking, just because y’all can’t shop my jumpsuit doesn’t mean you can’t shop one that will fit your style! Though it might be a little outside your comfort zone, I highly encourage adding a jumpsuit to your wardrobe. Don’t keep yourself from branching out and looking like a total 10.

MY SUMMER JUMPSUIT PICKS

I gathered up a whole gaggle of jumpies for y’all, so no matter your shape, size, or style, you can find the perfect summer jumpsuit. A jumpsuit is the adult “onesie” you never knew you needed. If you’re already on the jumpsuit train, you deserve to treat yourself.

The best part about a summer jumpsuit, it’s a one-stop shop. All you have to worry about is accessories. It’s the easiest way to get dressed. I’m sharing jumpsuits for every occasion, below.

From wedding guest to grocery stores, I’ve got you covered. From solids, to stripes, bows, and florals, I’m in love with all these jumpsuits. If you’re worried about your mid-section, go for a flowier look. A casual, easy jumpsuit is a cool alternative to the typical swimsuit cover. Lastly, my personal favorite, getting ready for work and slipping on a jumpsuit with a cardigan. Office perfection.

disco queen

disco queen

I have been so excited to share this look with y’all. From beginning to end. Because everyone deserves to feel like a disco queen, right?

When J and I were in Austin, we stumbled upon the ModCloth store downtown. I knew I had to go. I have never bought anything from ModCloth, but am a frequent browser. I just have never taken the plunge. Usually, I like to shop online at stores that I’ve shopped at in person too. If that makes sense. So, I obviously took the opportunity to check it out in real life.

P.S. the whole store is on sale right now.

Best. Decision. Ever. For a couple of reasons. The in-store experience is sooo unique. There are sample sizes in every piece they have.  You get a little clipboard and write down what you want to try on so you aren’t walking around with your hands full of clothes, and they get everything for you to try on. Another reason I loved shopping in store is the chance to love something I probably wouldn’t notice online. I saw this super soft shirt and had to have it, but there’s something about getting to try it on and feel how amazing it is in person. Let me tell you, I felt like a true queen.

Speaking of queen, can we just stop and take in how perfect this “Queen of the Disco” look is for summer? It’s such a fun outfit that you can dress up or down.

Details

I sized up in the top so it would be loose-fitting, but for a more snug fit, stay true to size. Like I said earlier, it’s soooo soft. And really flattering for being a tee.

Do y’all remember when I said I hate wearing denim shorts? Yep, I take it back now. I saw these Wrangler shorts and loved them, but I was so nervous to try them on because I didn’t want to be disappointed. Forever glad I took a leap of faith because these will be around for a long time. I know it sounds dramatic, but can’t everyone relate to being so let down in the dressing room? It’s the worst.

They are ultra flattering, high-waisted, and the perfect wash. I’m obsessed and you will be too. I am wearing a size 16, so they’re true to size. If you want a looser fit, size up.

You can shop my earrings and sandals here, too. My sandals are back in stock y’all!

So, meet you at the disco, queen?
