dallas staycation

I’ve been so excited to share my weekend with y’all because our Dallas staycation was one for the books. J and I love little weekend getaways and they are perfect for last minute Valentine’s Day plans! I’m also sharing a little throwback story to why we love staycations so much!

So, just to clear it up, yes we currently live in Houston and we traveled 4 hours for a staycation. But Dallas is home, and we got to hangout with my parents for a little, so it’s worth it. Also, almost all our friends live in Dallas so we get the best of both worlds there.

First off, the hotel. I was so excited to stay at The Highland this weekend. If you haven’t been to this hotel, add it to your list. It’s the dreamiest, most Dallas hotel, and I love everything about it. If you couldn’t tell. I showed everyone the room on Instagram stories, but if you missed it, here’s what a standard room looks like. Yeah, nothing standard about it. It’s also a hop away from everything fun in Dallas.

We hungout in Deep Ellum most of the time and it was a 10 minute Uber away, which makes life easy. I actually found out about THe Highland when we ate at their restaurant, Knife, with J’s parents. Hands down one of the best meals I’ve ever eaten. I literally dream about the Texas Wagyu. So yeah, The Highland is the best spot in Dallas.

Second stop on our staycation was Vidorra. So yummy. We waited almost two hours, but the margaritas and queso were well worth the wait. Then we headed to Cidercade, which was so fun. Who knew ciders and arcade games could be so much fun? But seriously, it was so fun and I highly recommend. If you go, get the Dreamsicle.

So, just a little backstory on why J and I love staycations. I forget this, but we spent most of our relationship apart before we were married. He was interning in Dallas, then I interned in Dallas, so we spend a lot of time apart. Insert staycations. Our first Valentine’s Day together, I came up to Dallas and we spent the weekend living our very best lives. Good ole’ internship money came in real handy that weekend. We went to a Stars game, ate a a nearby steakhouse, and stayed at the Fairmont. It was so fun, but now we do it on a more manageable scale. We just always have the best times being in the city for the weekend, so it has become our “thing”.

Like how cute were we?? Also, J had to be clean shaven for his internship. I made him promise to never do that again.

We ended the weekend with a quick visit to my best girl, Amy, to do my brow touch up at the cutest tattoo place in Dallas. Then headed to my first Mavs game. J is a huge Mavs fan, so I gave him tickets for Christmas.

For us, the best part of staycations are exploring new parts of the city. It’s so easy to always head to your ‘old faithful’ places, but it’s way more fun to try somewhere new. So, if you’re a Dallas native or just want to visit one day, I hope our staycation can inspire yours!

p.s. shop my looks from this weekend here.

cheers,

caitlin
