maxi makeover

If you’ve been keeping up with Keeping It Caitlin for a while, you know that I like to get the most wear out of everything. I’ll be the first to admit, sometimes I am definitely guilty of only wearing things once or twice. However, I try to make sure I’m buying pieces I can wear a bunch of different ways. I know summer is coming to an end, but don’t pack away those summer maxi dresses just yet because you’re about to get a maxi makeover.

One of the big trends this fall is color. Even though we’re transitioning into fall, bright colors are still trending. Thank goodness because it makes styling all of your summer maxi dresses so much easier for fall. And trendier too.

I am wearing this ultra-comfy maxi dress (with pockets!!!) from a local Houston boutique, but whatever maxi you rocked this summer will work for this maxi makeover.

the key: add some element of fall in your outfit to downplay the summer floral print or whatever summery detail your dress has. You can do this with layering a darker, more neutral sweater instead of a colorful one. Or switch the sandals for booties and tie up the bottom of your maxi to show them off.

If you’re like me and your dress is neutral, add some color with a fun sweater. I’m linking a handful of adorable sweaters below to liven up your look.

My comfy, lilac sweatshirt gives my maxi makeover all the fall vibes and add a perfect touch of color. I started to reach for a bright stack of bracelets, but didn’t want to be too summery. Instead I went with silver and gunmetal bracelets to darken things up.

Since it’s not totally fall yet, I’m wearing my favorite splurge sandals (that are on major sale). They are the perfect transitional shoe and the more I wear them, the more I love them.

So keep those maxis hanging in the closet and layer up for the cutest maxi makeover.
